Georges Rouault<\/strong>\u00a0is born in Paris. Hefirstapprenticed under stained glass artists first and then enrolled in the \u00c9cole des Beaux-Arts. Gustave Moreau taught him there, and he\u00a0took on the first director of the Gustave Moreau Museum in 1903 by the will of Moreau.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nAround this time,\u00a0Rouault<\/strong>\u00a0began painting works featuring clowns and prostitutes. Starting in 1914, he produced prints. After 1918, his themes became increasingly religious. In his final years, he produced oil paintings in which he applied color in a way that added luster to the work – a style unique to\u00a0Rouault<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
