Born in 1982, Tomoko Nagai is an artist from Aichi Prefecture, Japan. She graduated from Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music. Currently lives and works in Tokyo.
The artist creates paintings, three-dimensional works, and installations.

Since 2007, Nagai holds a one-man show almost every year both in domestic and foreign countries and she also participates in group shows held in cities over the world. Her works have many fans in the world and keep in collections around the world. In Japan, her works are in Takahashi Ryutaro Collection, the man who has a high reputation as an indispensable collector in the Japanese art scene since the 1990s.
｜A dreamlike world drawn by Tomoko Nagai
In her works, there are always animals, and children painted in the background of woods or a room. The whole atmosphere; trees, flowers, and mushrooms, surrounding her works, create a dream-like world.
The use of many mediums and gentle brush strokes in the paintings create magical rhythms and so the works feel like one piece of music.
The work we are introducing today, “Silver Herald of Winter” also depicts Nagai’s dream-like world. Cold winter morning, falling leaves are dancing in the wind and the frost makes them shine like stardust. In the room, a herald of winter is holding animals warmly in its bosoms…..as if they are one big family in the dreamland.
