Mr. is a Japanese artist, born in 1969. He graduated from Sokei Academy of Fine Art and Design, Tokyo. Around 1995, he began working as a member of the Hiropon Factory (now Kaikai Kiki studio) led by Takashi Murakami.

The artist’s name “Mr.” comes from the nickname of Shigeo Nagashima, who is a leading figure in Japanese professional baseball.

From TIMEOUT “Japanese artist Mr. on art, life and anime”

Mr. depicts girls in the style of anime or video game of “Moe culture” using analog techniques. (“Moe” is a Japanese slang that refers to feelings of cuteness or affection towards anime or video game characters.) He is acclaimed in Japan and abroad as an artist who introduced “Otaku (geek) culture” as contemporary art form.

His style changed around 2011. The main character of the girl remains the same, but an abstract element is slightly added.
This style is said to be influenced by the “Arte Povera” art movement that took place in Italy from the late 1960s to the early 1970s.
